OK I'm sorry if this thread is already posted but i cannot find anything after searching..I want to start teaching myself programming b4 my 1st semester starts in university it suck cuz i'm already 19 and i wished i learned earlier...My problem is choosing a language since there are so many but i know choosing a language depends on purpose also learning a language and learning how to program in the area of a language is two diff things like i can learn java but that doesn't mean i know everything about Obj Oriented programming..(so i've read)..I want to be able to make programs and i'd like a versatile language..even if its hard i am very dedicated when i want something..I've heard u can create ur own Trojan..not that i want to be malicious but i believe u can create good Trojans like if i want to create a piece of code to send me emails fi get from my pc to my smart phone without other ppls software..like i want to make it for myself..stuff like that..sites I can get compilers and everything i need u can tell me too please and thanks a million!!!1:pray:

well i wood suggest C++ or C# Their hard but they are useful and logical . Actually if there was a C language i wood learn it. Anyway C# or C++ . I like the most C# but, if you don't like any of these two languages, i wood suggest first to learn scripting for a Game Server.

Hey, have you looked into your university course? what language do they intend to teach you or use? (Most use Java/C++ for general computing/software engineering etc.)...

My advice would be to start learning the language they intend to teach you/use... I just finished my first year of university and i started learning the language my uni used(Java) about this time in the year aswell, it makes coursework a lot less overbearing. If you don't know what they're going to try teaching you then i'd suggest any C style language (C++ being the most common for a new programmer to take up)...

Good Luck,
Jamey

p.s. Oh and if you plan to program for multiple platforms (you mentionned a smartphone) i'd suggest going towards Java because it makes porting so easy... And most mainstream languages are rather versatile in the way you've described =]

hello bro..... im still 17 yrs old..
and not that pro on programming language i want to share a litlte for you to know what programming language is
(all i talk here is a self experience and self understanding its all my opinion )
last year im in a collection of a lot programming language ebooks for me to learn. all of those were python, java, c/c++/c#, assembly, visual basic .

Of course my school offered java as a language to learn.. for almost a year in my java learning at school i didnt learn much its because of my self and my poor teacher teaching.. for you to able to learn programming and make a trojan for the future just stick to a programming language on what your school offered... it is because all programming language were the same in you can make a program..

but it is like this programming language is the same as our language use in our everyday life to communicate.. we have spanish , english and chinese for our example.. if we compare that to programming language lets say we have java for english c++ for spanish and python for chinese....diffirent language but the same content, different in spelling and pronounciation but the same in usage.. if i were you i would understand and learn 1 programming language if you felt you have learn enough when you want to take another programming language it would not be hard for you to begin all you need is to know the syntax of a language you wanna learn next...

about xhtml and php ... xhtml it would be easy if you know html it is a stricter and cleaner version of HTML its just html
in learning xhtml you can use w3schools.com it makes the job also php

in php... it would be eassy if you know programming coz php is a web programming language ..

Yeah then you can't go wrong with learning C++ or Java (C++ is quicker to take up, you get somewhere quicker, and it still provides the OOP grounding for Java and other OO Languages).

And yeah i heard the story of Gary Mckinnon, what he did was cleverly done and didn't take a huge amount of programming knowledge... and the true result was that they wanted to extrodite him to the US to put him under trial and then imprison him for 10yrs+... So really not worth going down that route.

All i'll say is that the way to make money in software engineering is doing something essentially creative, destructive and abrasive/malicious software creation ends up hurting absolutely everyone and it doesn't make you any money.

Good Luck with the course.
