Usually I use FireFox, but occasionally for one reason or another I decide to load up IE instead. Yesterday I used IE to view a page on EncyclopediaDramatica. Immediately after loading the site up, my computer massively slowed down.
I restarted in safe mode, ran a scan with SpyBot, found nearly a dozen items, removed them, and started back up. Computer was still running slowly.
Went back to safe mode, scanned again, and two of the items were back, so after removing them again, I ran a long 12 hour virus scan with Avira virus scan. It found 7 viruses, which I removed. I scanned with SpyBot again, and now only Virtumonde.prx was there. Removed it again, but then went ahead and scanned again and sure enough, it was back.
My computer isn't as unbearably slow as it was previously, but it still running very slowly. If for example I move my mouse down to bring up the taskbar, it'll take several seconds before it responds and pops up. And if I wantg to switch to a program, it will take several clicks for it to register, and once it does, several seconds more for the program to come up.
Running yet another SpyBot scan now, it would seem some of what it previously found is back. Virtumonde, Virtumonde.prx, and Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.FirewallBypass.
Also occasionally a page comes up trying to replace my search engine as "AllowSearch.com" and "precata.com".
According to taskmanager, my cpu's at about 50%. The programs sucking up most of the cpu usage are explorer and teatimer.
I have over the past couple weeks had trouble shutting off automatic updates, which would turn itself back on at every start up. (I wanted to shut it off to begin with because it was ignoring how I had set it up, and was not giving me prompts when it downloaded files, which was murdering my connection, and disturbing my other online activities.
So, assuming I'm even in the right forum, do I need to create a hijackthis log? I've heard Virtumonde.prx is pretty tricky to completely remove. Just, please do not under any circumstances reccomend I reformat. :x
