To every 5 min. to like every other hour my tower will make a sound which sounds as if it was just shutdown, but there is no effect on my screen, it seems as if the power has just quickly cut out or something along those lines.

please i need some help!! im not sure how bad this is?

Thanks you

Hi Black4 and welcome to TSF

It has come to my attention that you might have a heat or voltage issue with your computer. We can not assume that it is one of these so we will go ahead and check. I would like you to download and install the program Speedfan. When you are done installing Speedfan open and look for 3 columns. One should have temperatures, the other should have voltages, and the last one should contain your fan speeds. When you have found this information please post to me in a column such as this: (Example)

Temperatures

Temp1: 30 C
Temp2: 60 C
HD0: 44 C

Voltages (only for desktops)

5.5V: 5.5
3.33V: 3.24

Fan Speeds

Speed1: 2480 RPM

(Remember this is just an example, please post your exact information)
If you are running on a Dell Laptop please follow these steps then post your temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds:

  • Open Speedfan
  • Click Configure on the Main Screen
  • Go to the Options Tab
  • Check the: "Enable DELL Support (use this function only on DELL notebooks)" check box
  • Click Ok then Close Speedfan
  • Start Speedfan once again

Then post your temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds.

Ah...well the voltage readings are never right...

None of the software that reads voltages is ever right. Only way to really check your actual voltages is with a multimeter, but I really wouldn't worry about that.

Go ahead and post the temps and fan speeds but more important information is what the exact components (hardware) are inside your computer. Like, hard drive(s), optical drive(s), video card(s), motherboard, and memory. Please include any other hardware in your system as well, like sound cards and such. Also, please list the wattage and brand name of your power supply.

@agentRed: Please do not tell the OP to disregard my posts, programs can find the actual voltages of a computer and they are only sometimes wrong. I would like him to give me the temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds of the computer. When the time comes, I will ask him for his system information. Temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds are very important pieces of information as I can check his PSU, his temps, and the motor of his fan at all the same times.

Please follow my post as directed as I still need this information. Also give agentRed the information he asked for as his post as important as mine is.

To tell you the truth i am beginning to think that the noise is in fact the hard drive. I have noticed that when i go to my computer then open C:/ it makes that noise, or when i begin to load a game, .. same noise.. The fact is, its a MAXTOR which i believe runs great (fast) but break quite often?? if this is not the problem however here are some additional information:

THIS MAY BE TOO MUCH INFO BUT MORES BETTER THAN NONE:
Temp1:55C
Temp2: 31C
HDO:49C
HDO1: 53C
core: 43C
Ambient: 0C
THEN:
VCORE: 1.62V
+3.3V : 3.30V
+5V : 4.97 V
12V: 11.43V
-12V: 0.47V
-5V : 1.69V
+5VSB: 5.51V
VBAT: 0.00V
SPEED
fan1: 3879 RPM

everything seems fine accounting for voltages, except for 12v rail. Check that with a multimeter. Also clean your system fully with a compressed air can, and anti static cloth. Afterwards use check the drive type chkdsk /f at a run command line.
