I bought an external hard drive from and I cant get it to show up on my macbook! I tried using two PC's to see if it was partial ( i dont even know if they make e. harddrives for certain computers) to a particular OS, but nothing. It has a USB and two firewire ports in the back, but all I have is a USB cable. I know the cable works, so I am wondering if something is wrong with the hard drive. Can anyone help?

What model of hard drive? Does it need separate power or is it bus powered off the USB ports?( At 750GB it should be a 3.5 inch drive and need powered seaparately) Did you buy it new? Can you feel it spin up?

I dont think its bus powered...it has a jack for an adaptor in th back...i can feel it spin up when i push the on/off switch, and it was used when I bought it...(Thank you for your reply)

If it was used, did you partition and format the drive? In windows thru disk management - mac - I have no idea LOL
