It's reallly getting on my nerves now. It's freezing, timing out and everyday programs and the net are very slow after putting all my software and music and stuff on it. My old P3 was as fast for FFS !!

It's a P4 3.2Ghz
160GB HD
1GB RAM
ADSL broadband
Win XP Home Ed 2002 SP2

I've done several virus scans, disk clean ups all to no avail. I've defragged as well. The only thing I jhavent done is clean the registry as I cant find a decent freebie that will clean the whole registry and not just the first six sections.

Should I do a complete re-install and format ??

I have zonealarm and kaspersky AV on at the mo..

 try this few step,
1. Goto Run
2. Type in MSCONFIG
3. Go to <Startup> Tab
4. See what is running..if you see something unfarmiliar, just untick it, but make sure u untick the right thing..
5. I am sure you have install all neccesary drivers for your hardware especially the Video Driver, cos if it is using a Generic Display driver, sure window will run a bit slow.
6. try unplug your network cable or network connection to internet. See any differents.
7. Back to MSCONFIG part, some application may try run it on startup, so may infact slow down pc if it keep looping things.

All these drivers were pre-installed by Dell when I got this PC. SO was the OS. Will try the msconfig part.
Just noticed that when I'm not downloading it seems to be normal !! The net is fast and office etc is fast too !!
It has to be bitcomet then !

Are there any other downloading tools that dont hog resources ??

most of them will hog resources.. try set the uploading to below 5kb and see

The uploading should not be to high as it will hog your resources...

Hows your PC?
Sounds like spyware to me

see here : http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

or here : http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

I use both at least weekly -- more if I surf a lot.
Nah mate its not spyware. I use Kaspersky AV and ad-aware twice weekly and its clean. My PC runs fine now. It was bitcomet that was slowing it down.

Thanks Davcheong for ur help.
If your using any p2p software it pays have a router. It can take up to 99% of the load off the CPU when downloading/uploading.

I used to run Azureus without a router and had a consistent 30% load on the CPU (XP2600+). After setting up a home network with a linksys router the load dropped to around 1 to 2%.
TSF does not support p2p software.
