Ok, so after I shuffled some files around to setup RAID on my computer, I started having problems. I listed part of my setup below. No files were moved to/from the windows disk, so I really don't understand why it's not working. Now when I boot up, the 60gb (Windows disk) Maxtor beeps 3-4 different notes and it isn't recognized on the first bootup screen.

Gigabyte K8NF-9 Rev 1.0 BIOS F2

Windows disk: Maxtor 6Y060L0 PATA Master
Storage 1: Seagate 80gb PATA Slave
Storage 2: RAID 2x200gb SATA (Maxtor + Western Digital)

If you need any more info, let me know. If somehow I find the solution before anyone answers here, I'll post the cause and/or solution.

Thank you.

I think I've found a solution. I'll have to find another maxtor 6Y060L0 and perform hd surgery, swapping the internal discs. I know this isn't recommended, but I have some stuff I need to recover. there's a place in dallas that can recover your info if you're rich. it costs $100 just to have them look at your disc, and much more to do anything with it. I think I can spend less than $100 just to do the operation myself.

for what it's worth.

Hi,

If the hard drive is not spinning at all.

Then the chances of recovery are very low or expensive.

You can, I've read of it being done.
SImply buy another Maxor drive of the same model and swap the electronics.

Your chances of buying the same hard drive and swappiing the platters around to allow recovery are very remote. You need a clean room to do this.

Even cigarette smoke produces enough "debris" to trash a hard drive. The clearances are so fine that just the dust from cigarette smoke on a platter may prevent the data being recovered. All that keeps the heads off the platters is the air buffer built up by the speed of the disk spinning.

Any hard disk is normally toast if you open the case except in a clean room.

You could try putting the hard drive in a plastic bag, sealing it
Then placing it in the freezer for a few hours.
Ensure that you are completely ready to connect the drive back up. Leads jumper setting etc.
If the drive spins and can when connected transfer the data to a working drive. You may not have long
