My external HDD starts every time I open Winamp; delaying startup

Hi.

I have a small problem with Winamp. It seems that every time I startup Winamp, my seldom used second external hard drive revs up and Winamp doesn't show up until the HDD is started, delaying the startup by a few seconds.

I've checked and there are no files on that HDD in the Winamp media library.

Does anyone know why Winamp is starting my external HDD and how to stop it from starting it?

Hi MegaSvensk,

I think it is normal for winamp to try to repopulate its play list when it fires up. If the last music was from the external drive, it checks there for the songs. It will do the same for the CDROM if you played songs from a CD. Try loading a song from the internal hard drive and exit, then restart winamp to see if that is the case with your winamp.

I have no music on the external drive. It just starts it for no apparent reason.

Hi MegaSvensk,

You didn't say if you tried to redirrect winamp's attention to the harddrive.
If you did and the problem still persists, you might try reinstalling winamp.

Open Winamp's Preferences and go to Media Library > Local Media > Options tab and put a checkmark in the 'Do not load the Media Library database at Winamp startup' box.

In the Watch Folders tab, remove any folders listed and remove the checkmarks from the 'Rescan folders at startup' and 'Rescan folders every xxx minutes' boxes.

Thanks but I don't want to disable the media library, I like that feature. Rescan at startup and every x minutes is disabled though. I just don't understand why it would start the external drive because I don't have any music on it and I've never had any music on it either.

Is your external drive USB or eSATA?

Which version of Winamp are you using?

I found this in the updated features list for v5.5 Final, so it's a known problem.

I am using v5.5 but Winamp has been bugging me about an update so I'll try updating it.
