Hi everyone, first of all I would like to apologise for my lack of computer knowledge. If I have not make my problem clear enough, please let me know.

I have a Packard Bell MC 6112 and running on Window XP. It has 2 slots (bottom and top). The top one (the D: drive) is not working anymore for some reason. Everytime I slot a disk in, maybe it be a game, DVD or CD, I go to Start --> My Computer --> DVD drive (D:) --> Right-click it and select 'Open'. After about 5-10 seconds, message pops-up "Please insert a disk into the D:." I could see the light in front of the drive slot blinking and I could also hear a clicking sound coming from the drive. But miserably it fails to open. :upset: I don't know if this help, when I right-click it and select 'Eject', it ejects the slot like normal. Any suggestion??? Really appreciated.

At the moment, I'm using the bottom slot (E:) to play my CDs but it doesn't always work with every CDs but it burn perfectly tho. Thank you guys in advance for any comments.

Hi king julien and welcome to TSF:wave:

Unplug and open your PC and try reseating the data cable on the back of the DVD drive. Be sure to touch the bare metal of the case before touching anything in the PC.

If you have a "head cleaner" cd, run it in drive D and see if that helps.

Best regards

Hi thanks everyone for the replies...

mack1, thanks for your suggestion, I tried it but still it didn't work..

vladimirb, also thank you for your suggestion. I had this PC for quite sometimes now. Bought it in 2003.. so i thought you're right. It is kinda old. So I went and bought a new DVD-ROM and installed it and now it works perfectly now. It reads any disk and I'm sure the burning side will be perfect too eventhough I haven't try it just yet. But unfortunately something else come up... I don't know if you could help me with my current problem that I have posted today, if you could that would be great. Cheers
