I have a Yamaha CRW8824S CD-R/RW drive running on Win98SE operating system.

Lately, whenever I burn data to a CD, it will close the CD after burning, even though I specifically tell the software I don't want to close the CD, but keep it open for another session. The data gets recorded properly and I can read it; it's just that I can't write to the CD again, even though there should be plenty of room on it.

This started about a month ago, after I'd been using the drive successfully (keeping the disk open) for over 2 years. This happend with 2 different burning softwares - WinOnCD (the original software) and Burn4Free (software that I downloaded specifically to check on this).

Anybody have any idea on how to fix the problem?

Have you tried uninstalling all of the burning software programs you have on your machine? Then install the one you want to use.
