I have DELL computer with a Celeron 2.60GHz processor. I am running XP professional version 5.1.26. I have service pack 3 installed. I am also running internet explored 8.

This computer is mostly used by my kids for their entertainment. I believe they have messed up a few settings:
1) The computer will not install security update kb905474.
2) The computer keeps saying "framedyn.dll" is not installed. I followed Microsoft instructions to replace this file but we continue to get this message.
3) There are way too many programs starting at start-up. Whenever I try and delete some of the programs I get error messages.
4) Periodically the system will get a huge spike in activity. I can not determine which program is running per taskmanager. The spike will last from 15 minutes to an hour. During these spikes the system is extremely slow. Shutting down our cable modem does not stop the spike.

Can someone please look at my system and help me fix these annoying problems?

Welcome to TSF

If you have kids, the system is most likely riddled with some type of spyware or malware. Read the instructions HERE and post the requested logs HERE. We do not deal with virus infections in this area of the forum.
