Hi,

I've had my current pc since last November, and within the past few months i have seen a rapid increase in the number of BSOD i have encountered. There are multiple user accounts on my PC, 2 admin accounts and 4 standard user accounts.

Basic System Information:
OS - Windows 7 Home Premium
• x64
• XP was originally installed
• XP Partition deleted, Win7 installed (Full Retail Version)
• System Date: November 2009
• Intel Quad Core Q9550
• ATI XFX 4890
• Asus P5QL Pro
• PowerCool 650w (upgrade from Coolermaster 500w)

The image below details the amount of BSOD i have encountered (The software is called BlueScreenView):

In regards to the BSOD which occurred on the 27th, the software states the filenames at fault are dxgmms1.sys, ntoskrnl.exe. The Ntfs.sys BSOD detailed the following filenames as culprits: ffltmrs.sys, notskrnl.exe. These three blue screens happened when i was viewing downloaded 720p trailers from Apple and Yahoo Movies using VLC Media Player.

On the 28th two further BSOD occurred, again ntoskrnl.exe was at fault for both of these. The BSOD took place when i was browsing the internet using Mozilla Firefox.

I was maybe thinking it was an overheating issue, so i have included a picture taken using HWMonitor:

As requested I have added the Windows 7 folder along with the Perfmon html file. The BSOD utility froze at the stage where it was Running Windows Management Instrumentation “Recoveros” and Page file.

Hi,

As you have seen yourself there are quite a range of BSODs, which is usually indicative of a hardware failure. However as so many 3rd Party drivers are mentioned it may be a solely software error.

Things to do:

1. Remove SPTD

STPD.sys is known to cause BSODs; remove Daemon Tools, then use this SPTD installer to remove it (pick the uninstall option when you run the installer): http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/downloads

2.
Remove ASIO.sys

ASIO.sys is part of several ASUS Overclocking/Hardware Monitoring programs (most likely EPU-6 Engine) and is a known BSOD instigator. Remove any software that fits that description.

3. Update or remove ESET

You have an older version of ESET; one which is known to cause BSODs. Either remove or update.

To remove: http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2289

If you choose to remove then install Microsoft Security Essentials instead: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

4. Update Networking Driver
Code:
[font=lucida console][B]L1E62x64.sys[/B] [COLOR=Red]Tue Jun 09 16:38:22 2009[/COLOR] (4A2DE73E)[/font]
This is dated pre-Windows 7 release. Update from ASUS: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

5. Update Graphics Driver
Code:
[font=lucida console]
[B]atikmdag.sys[/B] [COLOR=Sienna]Thu Nov 05 05:11:41 2009[/COLOR] (4AF1A7BD)
[/font]
While this one is post Windows 7 release, it was blamed for at least one of your BSODs so it is definitely worth updating.

See if you can find an update at the same ASUS link in #4

6. Malware?
Code:
[font=lucida console]
[B]pxkbf.sys[/B] Tue Jan 12 05:08:23 2010 (4B4B4CF7)
[B]pxrts.sys[/B] Tue Jan 12 05:08:27 2010 (4B4B4CFB)

[B]avgto7ce.SYS[/B] Wed Jul 15 09:12:55 2009 (4A5CF4D7)
[/font]
I could not find much about the above 3 drivers, most of the info that was available suggested they were malware. However, if you know what they are from then we do not have to worry about those.

Regards,
Reventon

Thanks for replying, i have a few questions before i start carring out the procedures you have given.

3. Update or remove ESET
You stated that the older version of NOD32 gave BSOD, does this still spply to the newest version?

4. Update Networking Driver
For this step, i'm not sure which networking driver to install, How do i find out which series and model i have?

5. Update Graphics Driver
Same as above, i'm not sure which one to install. I have an XFX Ati 4890 graphics card. Could it be the EAH4890 Series? Should i install the newest VGA or another utility?

I already have the Catalyst Control Centre running on my system

Most people do not have any problems with the new one so try updating it first, but if you still get problems then it should be the first thing you uninstall

There should only be one Atheros Networking driver when you select your Motherboard/OS at the ASUS site. If there are several they should have the same name and just different release dates

Apologies, I gave you the wrong link for that one. Find the graphics driver here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
