I have had my computer for about 3 years. It came with MS Works and I've noticed that I have problems opening some files sent to me in MS Word. Should I purchase MS Word for my computer? (Is it available for purchase?) I know very little about computers and software. I use Windows ME.

Yes. Or Microsoft Office - 2000 I guess I don't know if Office XP will run on non-XP, but I doubt your system is up to the min spec for Office XP.
