i'm looking for a viable (free) alternative to microsoft office, idealy with spreadsheet and powerpoint options in addition to a word processor. I have found OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org), and I was wondering if anyone has used it or has any better suggestions.
thanks.

I think you found the best one out there. I've been using openoffice for the past two years on every school assignment, the equivilents of Word and PowerPoint, and aside from a few little quirks, they work extremely well. The best part is that you can even save in MS formats if you need to use them, for example on a school computer that only has MS office on it.
