Your Game Might be glitching due to a number of reasons:

If you havnt already, Press [ALT]+[ENTER] to run the game in full screen.

If its a 256 colour game, goto properties, compatibility, 256 colours
You can also try running the game in compatibility mode for win95 and changing the resolution to 640x480 (under the same tab)

XP's max memory might not be enough to support your DOS game (Weird, huh?), If all of the above dont work try the following
goto \WINDOWS\System32; copy the files autoexec.nt & config.nt to the folder where your game is located. edit the files you just copied and add the line
emm=ram
anywhere after the line
dos=high,umb
in both files- if one of those .nt files doesnt have the dos=high, umb line, dont add emm=ram in that particular file
goto your the properties of your game, advanced, and enter the full paths for config.nt and autoexec.nt that you just edited.

voila

cheers,
Polar
