Need Help! Mouse pointer with a mind of its own?

Need help! I have an intermittent (comes and goes and moves at different rates sometimes up sometimes down sometimes up and down) mouse pointer problem. I thought at first it might be a virus or spyware. I have Mcaffee and Adaware installed updated and run frequently and the problem still remains. I have a toshiba satelite laptop with an eraser style mouse on the keyboard which I find difficult to use so I installed a USB mechanical mouse. The problem appears to be related to the eraser mouse. When the mouse decides to move all on its own, ie it will creep down the screen slowly and sometimes rapidly down the screen, but I find I can control the movement by using the eraser mouse however the pointer will not stay where I put it and if I let it go the pointer will run down and across to the left or sometimes in the opposite direction. Then if I wait it will sometimes correct itself and the pointer will act normally? Ive run troubleshooter and checked for proper drivers and it tells me that everything is working normally?Often when my computer is booting up the mouse will be uncontrollable until it finishes booting completely and sometimes still moves on its own even after that? Any suggestions? :sayno:

have you checked your mouse's eye for hair?
When I unplug the usb mouse the problem doesnt go away.
oh, then that's definately not the issue.

i'm kinda all out of ideas.

you can try locating the setting that disables the erasermouse when you have a normal mouse plugged in, on my laptop there is that setting, there might be on yours.

as far as why your erasermouse does that, you might check the manual.
