mouse trouble

i just bought the GE deluxe optical mouse model:97769 for the sole purpose of gaming, and it's got 5 buttons and two wheels but when i try to configure the controls to these buttons such as jedi knight 2 or max payne it won't recognize those buttons. my brothers microsoft mouse with the same buttons works but mine doesn't, i've installed the mouse driver that came with it.
