I have a FreeAgent Desk 1TB External Drive connected to my MacBook Pro (dual-booted with Vista SP1) via FireWire 800. The way the drive works is that there is no power switch on the unit itself, and the drive is turned on or off depending on whether or not the disk is mounted in the operating system. I like to unmount the drive from Windows whenever I have no intention to access the drive to keep the heat down and to prolong the life of the drive. Is there any way to remount the drive without physically removing and reconnecting the FireWire cable each time I want to access it?
