Hello everyone, I have a problem with an Innovator laptop; I’m convinced that it’s all about motherboard. The first problem I had, when a friend brought it to me to fix it, was that he wanted me to format it but the screen didn’t show anything except backlight when it was on. I attached an external monitor on which I could see everything good, made a format, winXP (sp3) installed, all drivers up to date installed. After updating the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS drivers I could see windows on both monitors (external and laptop’s screen) so I thought that problem was solved. But when I restarted laptop without external monitor, I wasn’t able to see anything on screen until windows was logged on. I restarted laptop again on external monitor and I was able to see again both the pre windows logon characters and windows. That is my First problem. (Works fine on windows but can't see pre windows characters just on laptop's screen)

Meanwhile I realized there was a second problem. Battery is not charging when I turn laptop off plus even if the remaining power icon showing that is about 85% of battery or more when I unplug the AC adapter, I get the following NVIDIA power warning:
Your NVIDIA graphics card is not receiving enough power. As a result, the graphics card has lowered its performance level to a level that allows continued safe operation.

To remedy the problem, ensure that your NVIDIA graphics card has the supplemental power connector attached"

Clicking on More info button -->Your NVIDIA graphics card must have the supplemental power connector attached or your system may be damaged. Please refer to owners manual for complete inspection instructions. Also the power supply in your computer must be able to provide ample power for this extra connection.

The only way I can imagine could maybe fix at least one of those problems is flashing the bios. Do u believe that there is any chance with it?
Even if that helps I can’t find a bios update for laptop's specifications :

Motherboard: SANTA ROSA CRB, manufacturer: Intel Corporation
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies LTD, version: R1.03, date : 08/13/2007

Intel® Chipset Identification Utility:
Detected Chipset: Intel(R) PM965 Express Chipset
Memory Controller: 82PM965
I/O Controller: Intel(R) 82801HBM/HEM I/O controller hub (ICH8M) SATA Controller found in IDE mode
Integrated Graphics: Not Detected or Disabled (!!!!????)

have you tried another battery. Sounds like it may be dying.
Haven't tried it cause my friend doesn't have an extra battery, I thought about battery problem too but because of the first problem I mentioned before I wanna try the bios update first and then I will ask him to buy a new battery if second problem insists.

I seriously doubt that a Bios update will resolve your problem.
Bios updates should only be done if the update directly addresses your problem(s).
A bad Bios update can render the Mobo useless.

Hmmm... Thank you very much. I'm mainly interested if you think a Bios update would be usefull to my condition but as long as I can see u don't think so. Do you have any other solution for my problems? I can't think of anything else to do. Maybe mobo is not useless yet but I guess there is a problem there.
Thanx anyway!

you have to go to the motherboard manufacturers website for new versions of the bios not intel.

Motherboard: SANTA ROSA CRB, manufacturer: Intel Corporation as I can
see in EVEREST ultimate edition.

Motherboard Properties
Motherboard ID <DMI>
Motherboard Name Intel Corporation SANTA ROSA CRB

Motherboard Manufacturer
Company Name Intel Corporation
Product Information Motherboards from Intel
BIOS Download http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx

Do u mean bios manufacturer?
But I think the right is motherboard manufacturer as u mention.

I think you are a bit confused is this a toshiba laptop? if you want the bios for it you go to the toshiba website to get it.

There is a difference between OEM computers and ones people build themselves. OEM computers (ones that you buy from a store) have their own specific BIOS made by the manufacturer sometimes you cannot update these, sometimes you can.

When you build your own computer there is no manufacturer of the computer so you download the BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer.

Intel dont specifically make motherboards they make the chipset that goes on the motherboards.
