Hi is there any test that can be carried out to test for a faulty card slot. I am using a gigabyte GA-81G1000 pro-G and when I install a graphics card in the slot the PC will not start. (no power) Any suggestions please

Thanks for the response.
The video card is a SAPPHIE RADEON 9550.
The processor is an INTEL (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz Speed 3215 MHz.
Motherboard Buses AGP PCI USB 12c/SMBus System bios version -42302e31
Total memory 1.00 GB.
O/s is windows XP professional with S/P 3 installed
I sent the card back to the supplier and they said it checked out OK.
The reason for suspecting the slot is that everything is operating well until I instert the card (shutting down first) then nothing. Am I looking at a M/B short?

I looked at the info on your board. It doesnt look to have onboard video. Just want to confirm that it indeed does not have it. (if by chance there is onboard video, you will need to get into the bios and turn it off so the AGP card can then work.)

What kinda power supply are you using? Name/model/wattage. New card my put your power need past that which the psu can put out.

Im guessing there was a previous video card. Did you uninstall those drivers fully before tried to install the new card?

Hi Flyleaf
The display adapter shown on the device manager is an Intel(R) 82865G graphics controller. I have tried to disable this and plug the monitor into the video card. Same result.
The power supply is fairly new the last one the fan bearing failed. Now fitted is a Xsonic Model ATX P4-550W.
Yes previous card drivers removed
I notice that the new card has a 250MB memory could this be a problem with MB?
If I need to get into the bios which is not problem not sure what to look for I did check for anything that looked like anythink relevant to a video but couldnt find anything.
If you need anything else I have the Test My Hardware program and can pull up most tech stuff.
Thanks again

I looked deeper into your mobo and it doesnt have onboard video. What was the other video card?
This might be a dumb questions but are you making sure the video card is seated all the way down? There is a lil pin at the back of the slot that has to be pulled out to remove the card. Might need to be pulled out to place it in? The AGP slot is the top one thats set back farter then the rest (if by chance you didnt know)
Other then it not being seated right, I dont know. Ill look over some more info and get back to ya.

hehe nope. Im located in Washington State. But I am a goat farmer if that helps :) Well amongst other things.

By the way, do you still have the old video card? And if so, does it work if you put it back in?

Hi Flyleaf
No do not have the old card as it failed. But it did not shut down the PC. I had a relook at the MB slot and the card does fully fit. It just wont allow a power up. One thing the supplier did say was that perhaps the card is to much for the MB. The fact that there is no power is this some sort of protection (overload) activating

Thanks for your interest
