Hi All - I have an older but still good HP computer that I am putting together with an emachines flat panel monitor for the first time. The monitor is not receiving info from the computer. It shows the RGB screen for a few seconds then the light clicks back to amber and the screen goes blank. The computer seems to be going through its boot sequence.
Thought it might be a driver issue - the monitor does not need a driver. I connected the monitor to my laptop - it works perfectly. I reset the RAM in the computer - no change. I checked that the monitor cable is connected to the video card - it is a FOXCONN GEForce 8500 GT.
Thanks for your response. I don't have another screen here, but we are taking the computer to a store where we can test hooking it up to another monitor. It was hooked up to dual monitors in the past and worked fine. The computer did have a problem this spring where it wouldn't boot up but it was solved by reseating the memory.
If the PC has been moved recently, check that the CPU heatsink is still tight to the CPU, if it's a Intel CPU and a 775 socket they have 4 push pins that lock them to the motherboard sometimes when moved or transported they come loose.
