I bought a 19 inch Viewsonic flat screen CRT monitor at a computer Expo while I was visiting relatives back home. It was a refurbished model but the price was right and it worked great at the show. Well after getting the thing back to California, I hooked it up and it worked great....for a day. Yesterday while I was trying to adjust the tilt of the screen. The Monitor went blank like i turned off the power but the green light on the power button is still on. I have looked around and tried to see if it was somethin simple that I would be able to fix. I checked the connection to the video card(making sure the pins werent bent) I checked the power chord for shorts(I even swapped it out with another one i had that I i knew was good) I tried everything I can think of, short of opening the back up and messing with the insides.
So let me try to be as specific as I can. That way I can try to save both your and my time.
The monitor will turn on but the screen stays blank. There is no whine like it is trying to display. The controls on the monitor other than the power button do not work. My other monitor works fine so I know that it can't be anything other than something not working in this one.
I don't know anything about repairing electronics and It looks like it is going to cost me a lot of money to take it to a shop and have it done. I only paid 115 bucks for it so I can't really see spending that much to fix it. It is looking more and more like I have a 19 inch 53 pound paper weight but I am not ready to give up yet. If it were something that wasn't overly complicated to fix I might be able to do it myself. I figure if I break it in the process I am not out that much money and I will at least get some learning experience out of it
Thanks
Ben
