monitor problem

Er why is it my monitor goes black every few seconds? Especially after my cousin downloaded the nvidia display drivers onto my computer. This problem has caused my computer to crash a few times and everytime Microsoft tells me it is my video card that caused the error. I have downloaded the Detonator drivers but this did not solve the problem.

GeForce MX 440 on Windows XP professional
Pentium 4 2.40Ghz
256 RAM

If the new drivers are the problem then go back to the one that was working!
