Copying this from my post on the Toshiba Forums here.

Model: Satellite P750
Processor: Intel Core i7 2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Dedicated Card: NVidia GeForce GT 540M

I think my laptop might be using the Integrated card, despite having the more powerful Nvidia dedicated card available. I have set the Nvidia control panel to use the dedicated card exclusively, but my plug-in monitor says that it is using the Intel card when I check the resolution properties. I've had problems with the Integrated card in the past, and I don't think I've ever used it willingly. It's pretty terrible in comparison to the NVidia. So is there any way I can disable the integrated card, or remove it entirely, without causing too much trouble? Last time I tried to just disable it, the monitors and laptop screen just went black, and I had to do a hard restart in order to fix it.

I'm not sure if I have Optimus (which could be part of the problem), I have yet to check BIOs to see if I can turn it off. I also have not checked to see if the Intel card affects only the external monitors or them AND the laptop screen. I remember the card registering with the laptop screen by itself however.

I first noticed this issue when I checked my Screen Resolution properties. I don't have the money to upgrade or get a desktop so I was trying to get as much performance out of it as I can. When I saw the monitors were using intel, I tested it by booting up Skyrim (which lets you choose which GPU to use. Sure enough, only the Intel cards show up on there. Skyrim also could barely run at my last used settings so I figure that it really isn't using the dedicated card, despite me telling it to in the Nvid Control Panel.

If the Intel turns out to be overriding my settings then it would explain why my game performance has dipped in the past year. I can run most things fine with a little tweaking to inis and configs, but it seems to have become less and less helpful.

Any help is appreciated, and if you need any more info then please feel free to ask and I'll post it ASAP. I'm tired after trying to figure this all out, so I'll try to run Skyrim and a few other games on just the laptop (no monitors, or devices plugged in) tomorrow.

Hello,

There is no way to disable the integrated graphics. You can however set the

applications to use the Nvidia graphics card from the Nvidia Control Panel >3D Settings

The laptop is using Optimus Technology and usually there is no way to disable it from the BIOS.

Disconnect the monitor and then run the game to check the performance.
