Hi, I am running win xp pro, with a geforce 3ti 200 and a 19" NEC monitor. After the computer runs for a bit, the monitor will go black then come back. No data is lost, just an anoyance. I updated the video card driver, no solution. Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be the Video Card overheating? the monitor overheating? or something else?

Did you uprgade to XP from an older and most likely better OS? If that is the case get rid of XP and destroy the win XP install disk, or if you want to be cruel sell it to some poor sucker who has never used it before, or has never heard anything about it.

BTW; I'd never wish XP on anyone, nor would i suggest someone buying it cause its not worth the price of the cd its burned on.

it could also be a memory problem

but it might be your video card doing a stack dump and refreshing.

There is nothing wrong with XP! All the problems are usually created by pilot error...............

Win XP doesnt install correctly when upgrading from another OS to XP, your XP was probably pre-installed on your computer, thats probably why you havent had any trouble with it yet.
And the constantly having to update it sucks :upset:

and yeah, it is most likely a hardware thing.

It is a fresh install of xp.
I am thinking maybe video card over heating?

Well the easiest thing to do would be to hook up another monitor and see what you get then. If it works then you know what you need to do. If it doesn't then try a video card.

What resolution are you running the monitor at?

I get this problem too, i think it might be video card overheating coz i have a very bad heat problem with my geforce and i get this black screen all the time. But this is only a guess, i have not checked it out or anything.
