Monitor Fade

2391 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Valiant
My puter monitor got the idea that it wanted to test my eyes so it would start to go dim and then come back to bright and this went on for about 2 wks. and only got worse to the point that the screen was all but unreadable, Well time for a new monitor, You guessed it the new monitor is doing the same thing. Not being real puter smart other than seeking someone elses help,I haven't a clue to what to look at for the cause of this. Any thoughts on this?

possibly bad wiring... voltage fluxuation, or possibly the video card.... Give the computer a shot on a room that has a different breaker, and if that still does it see if you can rummage up a video card to try.
Vals right... also spend money on a decent battery back up with line conditioner...try the monitor on a diffrent pC...if it works then look to the box for the problem....when does it happen...is your sceen saver set to 1 minute and the saver is kicking on and off (dont laugh it happens)...is your power supply weak...is something inerfearing from a distance...fn cellphone speakers

Good luck...post back
Thanks for the responses, The voltage and amperage for the circut the puter is on is OK with nothing else being on that circut. Acouple of things ya'll brought up, One, the power supply on this puter is of the 150 watt era apprx. 3 years old and I've often wondered if this was large enough. Two,this is one of the off the shelf HP models from "Put your seatbelt on" Walmart, Well not knowing anything about puters I just pluged every thing up and became a "Geek" yea right, Well I never thought of a viedeo card, do you think this could be the problem? And if so ,I might be in the wrong forum to ask this, could ya'll recommenda medium priced card to install. We do not play games though my other half does do some minor graffics " makeing soap labels" I realy don't care to spend a lot on this puter as I'm putting together another one that will be more intune with what she does, and this one will be mine to surf with. anyway thanks for the help and if I need to redirect this to another forum just let me know, also if you need any more info let me know.

As for a middle of the line card, I'd go ahead and give the monitor a try on another machine before you go and buy a video card. But you might want to stick with ATI... they do good stuff for middle of the line, their older stuff works great... so Bestbuy works, just keep away from anything with a GeForce chip and the letters MX, other than that just go with what's in your budget.
