Hey all,

I have a Gateway Desktop PC ( bought in 2001 ).
Its Intel Celeron
I have two slot for ram (one for sdr )

Earlier i had one ram (pc 133 - u335542)

I tried to upgrade with a new 512 mb DDR Ram.

But when i started my comp.

I got beep sounds for my few tries and

after 4 -5 tries

my monitor shows ( no signal and my keyboard not working )

I removed the new ram (512 ddr ) and still the monitor is not working

OS : Win XP Pro

Plz Help me resolving this issue.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanz

Welcome to TSF:

Many computer boards from that era couldnt handle single sticks of 512 memory / I suspect yours is one of them >>>> look on ebay for two sticks of 256

try returning the ram config to the way it was and clear your cmos

1) unplug Power supply unit (computer) from the electrical wall socket (important)

2) remove the cmos battery for 30 minutes (small shiny watch like looking battery about one inch in diameter on the motherboard)

3) after 30 minutes / reverse these steps and fire it up

ram configuration = install the original stick of ram in the same slot it was in before you tried the upgrade then clear the cmos and restart

goodluck / fingers crossed

David, you can't mix SDR and DDR memory.

Any luck in fixing the problem yet?
