Modem not working after re-installing Win XP

1354 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  davcheong
I just re-installed WinXP ( not too sure what version, think it's SP1) and formatted the HD on a friends PC but on completion the drivers for the modem havent been installed. XP was installed previously, so the modem IS compatible with Win XP.

If I knew what type of modem it was I could probably get a driver for it but I dont. Is there any other way out of this other that buying a new modem ??

I have the same problem with the graphics card on an another PC again !!

drivers

You need to take the modem out of the computer and find out the manufacturer and part number. Either go to the manufacturers’ website or http://www.driverguide.com .
Ermm/...I did that and theres no info physically on the modem !!

1st thing ... can give us the information of the modem card, example : chipset name, model number...
2nd thing... give us the information of the video card oso, as u are facing the problem in the other friend pc...
Theres no info on the cards. theres a few numbers on one of the chips alright but I think thats just a batch code.

Is there any other way of finding out ??
If your friends computer is XP and up to date; try installing the modem on that PC
Thats what I've been trying to do all this time !
Hi,

If you go to Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager Is there a red or yellow mark on the modem area?

Expand the modem area, then right click on the modem and click update drivers....what happens? Usually it will tell you what modem is installed if one is.

Oh, if using WinXP, make sure your PnP is set to Disabled in the BIOS setup menu.

http://www.drivermagician.com/unknowndevice.htm <<-- just found it... you can download the file from here...

hope that like this, is not called "SPAM"

download the file, and install it...
then go to tools
then select the detect unknown device
then from there should have detected your modem type, name, model
from here i think u can try search around the web for your modem driver.
