Hi there I need some help and I really dont want to have to reformat my computer and reinstall windows xp pro

I have a message that comes up when I restart the computer

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

<Windows root>\system32\hall.dll
Please re-install a copy if the above file

Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated

Perhaps you typed the file name incorrectly??

If the missing file is actually hal.dll (hardware abstraction layer) then you might want to check out the information at this url:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_haldll_missing.htm

Hope this helps!!
Still not working

Hi ya I did type it in wrong I put an extra L

I went to the link and did what it says but all I keep getting is
There is no floppy disk or CD in the drive

I've tried putting it in the burner and my cd rom drives and still the same

This is like the 5th time I've gotten this message and Ijust end up reformatting and starting all over again

Any help would be great
Thanks

You can boot your machine from your install CD and run a repair install. Information on how to accomplish a repair can be found at

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

or, you could boot from the install CD and use the recovery console which would allow you to extract the missing .dll file into the appropriate directory and then reboot your system.

hal.dll should go into your winnt\system32 folder.

Good Luck!!!
