I replaced the hard drive in a dell computer. installed windows-7 trying to install microsoft edge but keep getting an error
could not connect to internet. My internet connection is working. any help would be greatly appreciated.

New Edge is a different Edge. Only compatible with Windows 7 in a virtual mode.

It was working before I upgraded the hard drive.

When you reinstalled Windows 7 (note the fact that it's no longer supported), MS says you have to do the following to use Edge.

Prerequisites

For Windows 8.1, there are no prerequisites to apply this update.

For Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you must have the following updates installed before you apply this update. If you use Windows Update, these updates will be offered automatically as needed.

• You must have the SHA-2 update (KB4474419) that is dated September 23, 2019 or a later SHA-2 update installed and then restart your device before you apply this update. If you use Windows Update, the latest SHA-2 update will be offered to you automatically.
