I've been troubleshooting a machine for some hours now and I've decided to run a Memtestx86 on it. I am curious to know if ANY errors report is normal in Memtest.

I've been getting the BSOD pretty often on the machine and I highly doubt it's the OS itself, as even booting from some new CDs I've made 100% sure that works, resulted in BSODs without even booting to the HD. I've gotten the BSOD and probably about 5-6 different error codes.

So is it normal for Memtest to report any error(s) while scanning the memory? Thinking I'd need to replace the two memory sticks in this computer if it's not normal to get errors.

Also, in the memtest, it appears to be stuck. One of the lines, the errors keep jumping from 0 all the way up to 32k, and then it loops and starts back over from 0 to 32k.. It jumps from 0 to 32k in about half a second then restarts the counting process...

Bad memory?

It is not normal to get errors with memtest . . having said that, it is not always the memory that is causing the errors . . it can be the motherboard. Only way to tell is to replace the memory and retest

Actually they are all random. I've gotten 0xfc a few times though. I've gotten some "Memory management" errors... got another that said "The driver is mismanaging the system PTES"... some IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL errors... can't remember any more...

The PC is for one of my friends, but is custom built from someone he knows... some of the specs from SIW:

AMD Opteron 1300 Single Core 2.3GHz
Corsair 1GB DDR2 PC2-6400 (x2)
Western Digital 1TB SATA HD

And there's an ATI Radeon PCI card in there... Unsure of the model though.

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is common but doesn't help much without the Codes.
When trouble shooting a PC it is commonly very helpful to know the specifics.
Knowing the Brand & Model of the Mobo, GPU and PSU would most likely be very helpful for us to further assist you.
