I have a HP Pavillion Ze2000 and it's a couple of years old. I wanted to upgrade my memory to something a lot faster and better. The problem I was told that I can't use the newer DDR memory it would have to be SDRAM . Any suggestions to what I need or options to what I can upgrade to ? I'm not sure but I think I have a 256 k and it's too damn slow. Thanks in advance

you can only upgrade to what the motherboard allows. what is the exact model number? looks like you only gave the series but so a guess is you can upgrade to 2 gigs.

If all you have it 256 then you need to upgrade to at least 1 gig if xp or 2 gigs if vista.

try checking at the bottom of your laptop, there should be a white sticker. The top line shows the product series, the bottom shows the exact model number - right beside where it says service tag.

Once you get that info, you can go to crucial.com and do a search for your specific laptop and get the info you need.

it makes a big difference. it makes the info I previously gave wrong. The max your system can handle is 1 gig of ram.

The following info from crucial.com tells what your system needs.

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion ze2038wm

The reality is you have an older computer, there is really not much you can do to speed it up. You can upgrade to the max ram and there may not seemed to be any noticeable differences but it will run more efficiently.

okay thnx again especial for crucial's link. I went there and downloaded their memory scanner program which checks your member and gives you a suggestion. Here's what I got :

# Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
# Currently Installed Memory: 256MB
# Available Memory Slots: 1
# Number of Banks: 2
# Dual Channel Support: No
# CPU Manufacturer: AuthenticAMD
# CPU Family: Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2800+ Model 12, Stepping 2
# CPU Speed: 795 MHz

Simple question : now it says I have 2 blank spots and suggested for maximum efficiency it suggest to add (2) 1gb memory, removing of course the factory 256mb . That would of course increase my speed dramatically compare to what you thought from your last reply, correct ? Just wanted to make sure before purchasing an extra memory chip. Sorry to be such a PITA

it can get confusing sometimes when it comes for ram. Dont know why when I manually looked up your specific system it gave different info from the scan.

since you did the scan, it told you what was needed. Be sure to read all the other reference information about your system there. I would tend to trust them since if you get your ram from crucial, they guarantee compatibility.

agains thnx .. I'll trust that their scan was correct which would be great for me. My HP is '05 and from the spec scan I can have (2) 1 gb memory chip.
