I have a Maxter Diamondmax 10 200GB PATA133 HDD that was once an external drive, but when it was given to me the enclosure was long gone. I also have a Samsung HDD that works great. I use an HP Pavilion dv7. I am using both those drives as external drives. I have this device made by Diablotek, it is a USB to IDE cable adapter.
The problem I am having is with the power supply of the adapter. When I plugged in the Maxter, the power supply started to hum and the green light went out. I unplugged the power supply and plugged it into the Samsung. Instantly it started to smoke and I unplugged it.
I, then, replaced the connector end that is on the power supply that connects to the HD. I plugged it into the Samsung and it runs perfect. I tried it in the Maxter and the green light goes out and I get the hum. I still works on the Samsung but not the Maxter. Any suggestions?
