When I open files or folders on my new Vista Laptop, they are always minimized and I prefer them to be maximized so I have to maximize them manually. I have looked all over the place for some setting that will make all windows open maximized but can't find any. Does anyone know how I can have all windows open maximized?

Try this, it works for me.

Double click blue title bar at top of window to maximize, not white square top right of window.
When you close the window hold the Ctrl key down while you click the X top right of window.

Hope it works for you!

Thank you Pat and Flatiron. Just went thru all my Programs on the Desktop and Flatiron's solution worked about 75% of the time and then Pat's solution worked on a couple of cases where Flatiron's didn't. In a few cases, neither worked but they are some of the least used by me anyway. The most important improvement was making My Computer, Control Panel and other Windows folders work.

I appreciate both of you taking the time to answer.

BTW, for anyone whose interested and been following this thread, I found out later that ,if neither of the solutions above work, on most of my remaining tries, I could expand the window by resizing with the mouse and arrow method, then close as above and it would retain its maximize on following openings. I only had about one or two programs that would not work with any of the three methods and they were ones used only rarely.
