I bought this ACER Aspire 5100 specifically for use in my mobile DJ service and unfortunately the dang drive isn't working. It shows up and lets me rip a couple of cds once in awhile but then it is gone again and it doesn't come back easily. I go to the device manager and it isn't even in the list. When I scan for hardware changes sometimes the drive will show up but only after I open and close the drive and stand on one foot and hop around and yell. I restart several times and once in awhile that works but not always. The biggest problem is that I am using a program called PCDJ that I absolutely need for my business and I can't get the drive to show up so I am forced to rip the files on another computer and transfer them to my laptop. I am planning on sending it to ACER to have them look at it but wanted to get some professional opinions first from anybody out there before I send it off for who knows how long.
I have an IT friend who tells me that he thinks it is losing power so when the laptop starts up the drive has no power and therefore doesn't load the drivers. I know have a clue.
