Master Browser problems...

I'm having an issue on a windows network (a few windows 2003 servers sp2, and xpsp2 clients) where i need an acurate list of computers in the network neighbourhood for my backup software to work correctly. Normally if a machine drops off the list for whatever reason it's not an issue as we can access the machine with the \\computername\share rather than browse to it. But when taking backups our software REQUIRES us to browse to the machine to take the backup, there is no option to just type the machine in.

Is there a way to stop machines dropping off the list? We get lots of browser elections but are unsure how to stop them. Ideally we could set one server to be the master browser and then stop all elections.

Is this possible?

Thanks for any help
