Day before Thanksgiving I was online, talking on Teamspeak, my DSL "Hiccuped" (just stopped working, it does this sometimes) So I did my usual, turned off the DSL and turned it back on, after this action however I was unable to reconnect to Teamspeak, MSN Messenger, and many websights will no longer load, many of which I visit daily. All I get is the "The page cannot be displayed" page. Many websights Will load though. I have asked my friends for help, they're at a loss, I have talked with my ISP tech support, they can't help me. I've tried everything I can, resetting this and that, installing IE7, Virus/Spyware/Adware scans, and even System Restore back to the day before it happened, still the same thing. I no longer have IE7 after system restore, and my McAfee got messed up when I System Restored as well, so I just uninstalled it. I followed the directions on your "Please read before posting" thread. As much as I can anyway, some things I wasn't able to access (wouldn't load) when i tried to install SP1a it said I have to have SP1 to do it, guess I have SP2? I don't know. the only scan that told me I have something was Panda ActiveScan, said I have Adware/Spyware and a Hacker Tool on my comp but wouldn't delete it unless I buy it *sigh* Well anyway, here's my HJT log, I hope it tells you what's wrong, i'd like my access back!:sigh:

Hello Mystiie and welcome to TSF,

Yes, you already have XP SP2 for your system. There is nothing manifesting itself in this log. By any chance did you save the results of that Panda scan? If not, please run another online scan as follows.

Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

***************************************************

First, you need an Anti Virus back on this system. Please download and install this excellent and FREE anti-virus program:

Please download Active Virus Shield (powered by Kaspersky) and save it to your desktop.
  • Please remember to register for your Activation Code using a legitimate email address.
  • Double-click avs.msi to run the installer, but please uncheck "Install Security Toolbar" during the installation process:

  • Then please update the program and run a systemwide scan by selecting My Computer. Allow it to neutralize all that it finds.
  • When done, launch Active Virus Shield's main window.

  • Click the Scan button on the left, and then click Detected.

  • In the ensuing window, click the Save As button to save a copy of the log.
  • Copy and paste that log in your next reply.
Note: You must only use 1 (one) AV at a time because if you have 2 or more AVs running at the same time, they will conflict with each other and make your security less reliable.

-----------------------------------

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
  1. Click on
located at the bottom of the page.
  2. A "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
  3. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click "Free Online Scan" *The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place*
Begin the scan by selecting
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
  • Click on
    then click
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

-----------------------------------

Download Combofix and save it to your desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

-------------------------------------

Close any open browsers.

-------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.

Post the ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

-----------------------------------

Run a new scan with HijackThis and save the log.

-----------------------------------

Please include the following in your next reply:

While I was running Combofix an error window popped up saying there's no disk in drive, please insert disk.. my cdrom stopped working months ago, no idea why, or what's wrong with it, maybe it's cause of that? :4-dontkno

Hi,

Does your CDRom drive work now?

I'm still not seeing the cause of your issues. Download StartDreck

Unzip to its own folder and start the program:
Press 'Config'
Press 'mark all'

Uncheck the following boxes only:
System/Running Process -> List Modules
System/Drivers -> NT Services
System/Drivers -> NT Kernel- and FS-drivers
Press 'OK'

Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application)

Post that log here

I'm just not seeing any malware here. Let's try repairing IE.

Download the attached FixIE.zip file to your desktop.

Double click on the zip folder, then double click on the .bat file within.

Reboot your system.

Any improvement in IE?

Which websites won't load?

Let's see if this scanner picks up anything...

Please perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        [*]Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

I'm still not finding any malware. :sayno:

Right click on this link DelO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards. NOTE: This script will delete any sites you may have added to the Trusted Sites. So if you want them back, you have to add them back to the Trusted Sites again.

------------------------

Download Hoster

Run Hoster.exe:

Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner (If available).
Click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
Click the X to exit the program.

------------------------

If you still cannot access certain sites, let's try to narrow down the problem.

Have you tried using another browser such as Mozilla Firefox? Do the same issues occur? Bear in mind that Microsoft updates will not work with Firefox, but try the other sites...can you access those with Firefox? Here's the link if you need to install it and give it a try: Firefox www.mozilla.org/products/firefox

I think that worked! The Del015Domains.inf did it! I closed EI then reopened it then tried one of the pages that wouldn't open, it loaded and so did the others! Windows Messenger works...Teamspeak works...wow, what was it that was stopping it from working? do you recommend i still do the Hoster.exe?

as far as i know i only have internet explorer.

Hi Mystiie,

Glad to hear everything is working as it should now. :sayyes:

That tool cleared/reset your Internet Explorer Trusted Zone. Any entries in this area will allow scripts and applications from sites to run, so it is a popular setting for malware sites to use. In this case, whatever was left in there after you had used your System restore, was interfering with the sites you were trying to reach.

No, there is no need to run Hoster.

If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions and helpful links.

Enable Windows Auto Update
*Go to Start>Run - type wuaucpl.cpl
*Tick on the checkbox - "Automatically download the updates, and install them on the schedule that I specify".
Click on "OK".

Create a new System Restore point
Click Start >> Run - type SYSDM.CPL & press Enter
* Select the System Restore Tab
* Tick on the checkbox - "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
Click Apply
* Then untick the same checkbox & click OK
This will prevent any reinfection from previous restore points.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them:

Download SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place. Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items .

Download Spyware Guard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.

Download IE-SPYAD.EXE to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. IE/Spyad places more than 4000 dubious websites and domains in the IE Restricted list. This severely impairs attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites. This is a self-extracting .ZIP file, and save it to your desktop. Once downloaded, double-click on it to extract the files inside (default dir is C:\IE-SPYAD)
Now navigate to C:\ie-spyad. Double click to open it.
From within the folder, double-click install.bat
Select Option #2 - Install the new IE-SPYAD list, by typing 2
Then return to the main menu.
Select option #4 - Add the old porn sites domain, by typing 4

Update all these programs regularly. Without regular updates you will not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles:

PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need?

HOW DID I GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? by Tony Klein
THE ANTI-SPYWARE TUTORIAL
MAKING INTERNET EXPLORER SAFER
Understanding and Using Firewalls

**Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
