Setting up an email address for web based email services such as Gmail or Hotmail on a Blackberry is pretty simple, as most of the information for your outgoing and incoming mail server is already predefined for you. However, what if you have a business or personal email address that is served by a hosting company or your own mail server? This tutorial will show you how to set-up your own email account manually.

Step 1: Firstly, we need to open the messages app.

If you have no other email addresses set-up then you will automatically be prompted to add an account. If you do have one already set-up then press the blackberry key on your keypad to bring up the menu.

Scroll down and select Options. Then select Email account management and then add another email address.

Step 2: Now to create an address manually then we need to select 'Other' from the email set-up list.

Enter your email address and password and click Continue. If you don't know what these should be, then contact your email hosting provider or systems administrator.

Your blackberry will try and find the details for your incoming and outgoing server automatically for you. If it finds them then you have successfully set-up your email address. If it does not then proceed to step 3.

Step 3: Your blackberry device hasn't found the server and logon information necessary for an automatic set-up. Select I will provide the settings.

Select the email type, whether you have a POP or IMAP account or even an Exchange account. (Don't know what type of account you have? Contact your email hosting provider or systems administrator.)

Providing you have been supplied with the details for setting up your email from your provider or system administrator, we now need to enter the incoming email server and user name and click Next.

Now do the same again for your outgoing server. Finally click OK to complete the set-up. You will receive a message from your blackberry mail confirming that you have successfully set-up your email account.
