I have installed Mandrake Linux 9.0 on the third primary partition of my hard drive. I have Win 2k running on the second and BootMagic 8.0 running on the first.

I am having difficulties getting Linux to boot from BootMagic. When I select the Linux OS, I get a message:

Preparing to load "Linux"
40 40 40 40 40 40 . . . .

Linux fails to boot. Linux does boot from the floppy disk (the emergency disk that I created during install) however. I installed LILO to my Linux partition because I hoped to use BootMagic to choose the operating system.

Under the assumption that something went wrong during the install, I re-installed Mandrake four times. I uninstalled BM, but when I reinstalled it, it seemed to restore my old settings (i.e., the name for the OS on the ext3 partition).

Has anybody else had a similar problem? If so, how did you solve it?

FWIW, prior to my first Mandrake installation attempt, I had some difficulties with PartitionMagic. If you think this might matter, I'll post more details.
