Hello forum:wave:,

Need help with a machine I replaced HDD with. Reason for replacing HDD: old HDD starting to fail.

System Makeup (Everest Ultimate info):
Computer type: ACPI Uniprocessor
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
OS Service Pack: Service Pack 3
Interent Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 (IE 8.0)
CPU Type: AMD Athlon XP, 2166 MHz (13 x 167) 2700+
Motherboard Name: FIC K7M-400 (3 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN)
Motherboard Chipset: VIA VT8378 UniChrome KM400
System Memory: 1248 MB (PC2700 DDR SDRAM)
DIMM1: Kingston F: 1 GB PC2700 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz)
DIMM2: Micron 8VDDT3264AG-335C4: 256 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz)
BIOS Type: Award (07/08/03)
Video Adapter: VIA/S3G KM400 (32 MB)
3D Accelerator: VIA/S3G UniChrome
Audio Adapter: Realtek ALC650 @ VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller
Network Adapter: VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
Modem: Controllerless DF PCI V.92 Modem

Sympton: Machine will go past BIOS ok, then start to load device drivers loading windows with the bar going from left to right.
After a period the machine will reboot - no BSOD in evidence.

Workaround: Go into Safe Mode and let the system settle then reboot and machine loads into normal mode.

Investigation steps taken so far:
1. Replace old HDD with new HDD and boots up normal.
2. With new HDD in-situ checked device drivers for non-installed drivers - all OK.
3. Compared device drivers for old HDD with new HDD and found the following missing (should these have any affect?):
General Purpose USB Driver (adildr.sys)
AFS2K
basic2
Fallback
VIA Rhine-Family Fast Ethernet Adapter Driver Service
fsks
Microsoft HID Class Driver
HSF_DP
hsf_msft
HSFHWBS2
K56
Keyboard HID Driver
k11
RapportKELL
RapportPG
Rksample
SoftFax
StreamDispatcher
Tones
TSP
Microsoft USB Generic Parent Driver
Microsoft USB PRINTER Class
Microsoft USB PRINTER Class
V124
winachsf
Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Platform Driver
Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Reflector

4. Windows Update - failed to update Rhine Adapter

I am assuming at this time in place that it is windows XP issue ... or is it maybe h/w setting for new HDD ... ?

If anybody is able to help and / or suggestion would be much appreciated.
