My sister has got asus x51r, I bought her router with Access point dlink DI-524 so that she could
browse the internet via Wifi, she has got wireless card in her notebook Atheros AR5006EG, her
internet provider gives download 4 Mbits/s and upload 512Kbits/s, and when she is connected to
router by ethernet cable the speed of browsing internet is OK (DL about 3.8 Mbits/s, UL about
490Kbits/s)
but when i change the connection with router from cable to wifi (via Atheros AR5006EG) max speed
for download is 2.5Mbits/s! but upload is OK (about 490kbits/s) so i don't know why via wifi the
speed of download is so low???
wifi signal strength according to atheros client utility is Excellent!!!
both router ! and wireless card ar5006eg has "b" and "g" type so i think that the speed of wifi
shouldn't be lower than via cable

Additionally i have tested the speed of internet in my sister's house (in the same place as she has
router and x51r ) on my Dell laptop with dell's wlan card and the speed via Wifi was OK!!! download
speed was almost 3.7Mbits/s and upload almost 490kbits/s
So i think that the problem with speed on asus x51r via wifi is not because of dlink router but because
of atheros wlan card on x51r

please could you advice me what should i do????

Thats very normal wifi will always is slower

But in this case it is not normal, because as i wrote at my dell laptop the speed via wifi was the same as via cable, but on asus x51r speed via wifi was 2 times lower than via cable

does the dell have a better wifi card though?

according to specification both cards are b+g, so speed should be the same,
dell card is named as "dell wlancard 1390"

Just because the cards are labeled as 802.11g capable, that does not make them "equal".
