I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop that I have to reinstall windows on. I have the MS genuine key on the bottom of the laptop but now I can’t find the disc that contains win XP pro. Do I have to buy another disc or is there a way of getting round the problem. To help a friend has given me an ISO image containing win XP Pro, but I don’t know how or what program to use to create a bootable disc for installing the OS. The idea being that I install from the ISO image and then use my genuine key to activate the product. Can this be done? :4-dontkno any help would be appreciated.

Burn the ISO your friend gave to a CD using Nero or something (make sure you write it with the image burning option). The code on the computer may require an OEM disk rather than a retail disk though not sure which your ISO would be, it's retail probably.

It's very probable you're going to have problems with this version of Windows XP.

The Windows installation that came with your laptop is tailored to that specific laptop, because of the unique nature of the hardware configuration you'll find in the computer. Laptop OS's normally are not identical to the retail PC versions of an OS because laptop manufacturers make their own hardware and follow different standards.

Whenever you have a laptop and need to replace the OS on it, you should obtain the disks used by that manufacturer. You might have some real trouble getting your drivers in order.
