I lost the onscreen overlay bars, those neon green bars similar to what shows up on a tv when you change volume. so now when I adjust volume I cant see how high or low it is with out opening volume controls

I have a hp laptop, and went to keyboard settings then "onscreen displays" and checked "show volume controlls onscreen"... but they still wont show..

is there another setting somewhere else that I dont know about?
