I updated my sound and video drivers and installed DirectX 8 from the Microsoft update site. Now my computer has no sound. I went through the troubleshooting program. Everything seems fine except in the control panel, under multimedia, there are no playback or recording devices listed. I ran across a discussion board where someone recommended a site that enables you to uninstall DirectX 8. It looks intimidating to me. The site is http://www1.freewebs.com/firecat/ I'm afraid of causing more problems. Is this the best solution?
A backup previous to the change would be the best solution! If Direct-X 8.1 caused the problem, I suspect that somewhere along the line you'll probably have to consider uninstalling it...
well make sure you installed the drivers the right way. do this by looking at the drivers. now if they show up or appeare then maybe you need to see if you sound card can take directx8.1
what i would do is re-install all drivers and the sound card.
if it still wont work and you have the speekers hooked up right then i would try and take it to a repair shop.
