We our having problems with our internet connection quitting out on us every hour or so. It seems that the more computers and Xboxes we have on the more often we lose our connection. We only lose the connection for a second but that’s long enough so that we get kicked out of games and of MSN.
Originally we had our cable modem which was hooked up to a D-link DI-604 which we run our Xboxes from. From the 4th port on the D-link router we ran an Ethernet cable into a SMC router which we ran our computers off of. Our problems started to happen months later when we go a Netgear hub which we decided to run our computers off of instead of using the SMC. After running the network (modem, DI-604-Xboxes, Hub-Computers) for about a half an hour and then our whole network would crash and we would have to reset it all. We found out it was because we had too many cable splitters and after taking all of the splitters away our problem was fixed…for a few weeks. Slowly we started to lose our connection for a second, first maybe once a day until it started happening every hour or so. At first we thought that it was our modem so we had it replaced and that did nothing. Then we decided to get new routers and such. We purchased a Linksys switch and router. We ran our network Modem, Router-Xboxes, Switch-Computers. This setup worked great for almost three days. On the night of the third day it would only let us run two Xboxes at a time which then became only one Xbox at a time. The Linksys tech support clamed that if was because the router was getting confused because we’re all trying to run the same game. That of course doesn’t make much sense being that it worked for the first few days and then even when we tried playing different games it still continued to happen. Seeing that that wasn’t working we bought a DGL-4100 gaming router which we used to replace the Linksys router. We immediately began to experience the same problems as before with losing our connection every hour of so depending on how much we were running.
Our current setup- Cable modem- D-link DGL 4100-running Xboxes, Linksys switch-running computers.
What is our problem? Could it be some kind of Bandwidth overload? (Doesn’t make sense since the DGL is a Gigabyte gaming router) Could someone be stealing our cable and weakening our connection? What is our problem?
