Lorex L445W Security Cam System (Email Issue)

I have this security camera system I purchased at Sam's.

Lorex 4 Channel Wireless Security System with 500GB Hard Drive, 4 480TVL Cameras, and 90/135' Night Vision - Sam's Club

It's an LX445W by Lorex. The problem I have been having is that while the motion sensing is working (beeps when the alarm part is turned on) I don't always get the emails. I have the alerts set up and the schedule for emailing is set to 24hrs around the clock. I've tried Gmail, my ISP's... and the default (which by the way Lorex said is no longer in service). Without restating the obvious, I have double and triple checked each entry for the SMTP servers I was going to use (yes.. email is checked under alarm settings). Port 465 is used for SSL on GMAIL... I even setup a port forwarding on my router for the IP I have assigned to the DVR. Lorex support has not been much help on this and they decided to send me a replacement. I'm pretty sure this one is going to do the samething. The best I can say is when I swap SMTP's to test to see which one will work better, after a reboot.. it seems to work for about 12 hours. After that... no emails. There is nothing on my router that would be preventing to stop sending. FYI... the interval is set to 5 minutes.

Has anyone experienced this problem with this system or similar systems and found a workaround? I'm curious to see if there is something that could be done b/c the alert portion is useless to me currently.

Thanks.

I rebooted it again last night and its sending emails. Like I said before, this will go on for about 12 hours and it will likely stop sending them after that. Has anyone else experienced this?

What is the interval setting for, how frequently you send e-mails?

I'll bet your mail server is putting an automated block on your outbound mail because of the frequency you are checking or sending mail via the DVR. It's an automated spam defense and most mail service providers use them

If you say the outbound mail works for 12 hours, that tells me the Lorex software is working and your SMTP settings are correct. You have to use secure outbound settings (SSL or TLS), which you said you are. If not, your ISP will most likely block you. I'll also assume you aren't sending large image files or tons of them all at once.

I would test this out by changing the frequency for how often you send alerts to no more than 30 minutes apart. You might have to make a custom monitoring or alert schedule. If 30 mins. fails, try an hour, just to see if you can go a day or 2 with it working.

Security cam e-mail alerts aren't typically set for 24 hours a day. I normally set them for after hours and reduce the motion detection area to only the necessary area. If you need that much notification, you need a 24 hr monitoring service or a live app you can keep running on a phone or tablet.

Thanks for the reply. The frequency is 5 minutes on email as I stated originally. Also in terms of blocking, I use the same email account for a webcam that I use on a pc in my downstairs den that has software to detect motion and sends the emails all the time. It also uses a 5 minute interval.

I guess I'd like to know if others have this type of security system that have found success in the email alerts being consistent. Besides, after the 12 hours, you can go right up to the camera and no emails. Even added the dvr's ip into the dmz. Like I said, motion detection works bc I test with the beep alert turned on.

Thanks

I'd like to try and refresh the firmware but Lorex's site is useless on finding the latest firmware. The box says I have the latest version but I wanted to try and act like I'm upgrading it to clear out any bugs. I've tried the load defaults option which is tedious.

Lorex sent me another DVR and it basically does the samething. About 12 hours of it working and then nothing. The whole "abusing" the email server with emails doesn't really fly here b/c I use the same gmail account on another camera (actually a webcam connected to a pc) that sends the emails on a 5 minute interval if motion is detected around the clock. And no issues with the emails at all... sometimes its annoying getting them too often even on a 5 minute schedule. :)

I'd still like to hear from someone that has had similar issues with this and anything they know of to remedy it as Lorex doesn't have clue either.
