Got a bit of a problem on 1 of my PC's.

It's running Windows 7 and spends it's life in my arcade cabinet, while it had a wireless connection, it's rarly used to browse the net. It does have a history of being turned off suddenly, people turning off the mains plug to the cabinet, rather then shutting windows down.

I turned on the PC today to do some updating and I've been receiving error messages on windows booting.

Windows Logon: LoginUI.exe - Bad Image
C:\windows\system32\windowscodecs.dll is either not desidgned to run on windows or it contains an error
I also get these errors for
winlogin.exe
dwm.exe

Windows is very flakey, several program not working correctly, including Avast, IE and firefox.
Suspecting a virus, I manged to download and install Malwarebytes, which found nothing.
I always run chkdsk and HDTune incase something was up with the hard drive, but neither found a fault.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Startup repair complained that I had some sort of removable device connected and wouldn't do anything.

SFC /scannow said there were errors but couldn't repair them, when I went to check the log, notepad through a paddy and wouldn't open it.

Think I'm getting close to just formatting and being done with it, just wish I could be 100% sure it's virus free before I connect up my backup drive.
