My hard drive became unbootable, so I bought a new one and installed Windows (both installations are XP SP2). I kept the old drive as a slave in the hope of transferring files, and I know that most of the files are intact. However, on my old drive, I made the files for my username private. Now, when I'm logged onto the same username with the same password on my new XP installation, I can't access the files from my previous username. Suggestions?

I love nerdy friends... Using Safe Mode, go to the folder's properties, click the security tab, and transfer ownership of the folder to yourself. It's that simple...
