I have a Linksys E1000 wifi router... The problem is this: I can use the router via cable or wifi to access the internet but ONLY if the internet source cable is plugged into any port other than the "internet" port. If I plug it into the "internet" port, there is no internet access... winxp tried different cable etc. I am an IT person and have never experienced this when I have installed other wifi routers.. Thanks for any help...

Is there a modem involve here, if so what is the model?

Are there more than 1 computer and are they setup for autoconfiguration (DHCP)?

Make sure to reset the router to factory default. DHCP server and NAT has to be enable and working.
