Start with the model of the router, and the type of Internet service you have, cable or DSL.

If you open a command prompt (DOS window), and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL

The gateway address is the address of the broadband router. If you paste that address into the IE address window, you should be able to access the router's setup page.

I'm curious about "deactivating the device firewall", since the "firewall" protection of most SOHO broadband routers is primarily the NAT layer, which can't be deactivated. What exactly are you trying to accomplish by turning off a firewall?

uhm..i have tried already with the gateway(163.167.138.20) but still without luck.let me explain better what is the problem because i am not really sure if there is or not a way to work it out.

all my file sharing softwares seem of not be working (i can see the files but i cannot download anything), and some programs (ie lycos messanger) they never get connected.

if i try the edonkey2000 connection test (http://www.thedonkeynetwork.com/connection_test)this message comes up

"timeout : timeout on ip 163.167.138.110 (6 sec)

this means, that we even did not receive a
RESET signal; maybe due to a 'stealth' firewall"

Now as far as i understand (very little!) this is caused by this linksys external device i need to use in order to connect to the network ( i haven t got a etherFast card in my machine). i guess that is the cause because of what cames out from this link under the point number 3 "3. Hardware firewall or Hardware Router
".

http://www.edonkey2000.com/documentation/lowid.html

there is also explained how to configure the linksys router but i cannot access the http://192.168.1.1, and i dont know where to put my hands on.

what do you think?
