IE works fine until I hit a link that even though its not advertising but opens/luanches in a NEW window, will not download the page or show the page.

all i get is the 'hour-glass' unless i hit "stop" and then it will show me the address in the address bar and I can load it by hitting "reload" button.

I though it was a privacy pop-up blocker problem but even if i allow pop-ups or register these sites as 'allow access' with IE i still can't fork/luanch a new page from the web link.

any ideas? do i need a upgrade? SP?

-What kind of firewall are you using ? Set to defaults.
-Set your IE settings to the defaults. ( Security and advanced options )
-Check for malware. Click on greyknights link below and follow the instructions.

If you still didnt get any of the service packs get one asap. Some people prefer not to upgrade to SP2 with understandable reasons. Read this article from Microsoft first.

- I checked for Malware (spybot and adware)
- Using windows Xp firewall. set to defaults
- already have SP2 for XP before this problem started
